Who looks after data protection?

Under Data Protection legislation, Alsager Community Church, who own and operate ACSC, is the Data Controller. This means that the Trustees decide on how your personal data is processed and for what purposes. Personal data relates to any living individual who can be identified by that data.


Why we hold and process this personal data

We collect and use your personal information given to us by yourself, in order to provide you with support during a time of crisis or need.  We only ask for the information we need, let you decide what you are comfortable telling us and explain why we need it. We will confirm that you are happy for us to have this information by asking you to sign a consent form.

We may also hold your information if you support us financially or volunteer with us.  Data Protection legislation allows us to process this information as we regard it as being in the church’s legitimate interest.


How we will keep and use the information

Your personal data will be treated as strictly confidential and will only be used within the ACSC team to facilitate the giving of support to yourself. If you request that, we contact another Service Provider on your behalf it will be done with your consent and if possible done in your presence.


ACC also use information to maintain our own financial accounts and to manage volunteers. All data is kept securely in locked cabinets and any electronic devices are password protected and anti- virus/malware protected. No information is passed on to third parties without your explicit consent unless it is necessary as part of our legal compliance.


Access to, correcting and removing the information

We retain data in line with our Data Retention Schedule, which is available on ACC’s website or in the church office. You have the right to ask to see any information we hold about you by submitting a ‘Subject Access Request’ to the Data Protection Lead. You also have the right to ask for any information which you believe to be incorrect, to be rectified and you have the right to have that data deleted. Please note that even if your data is removed, some data will continue to be archived in line with legal requirements or to provide you with a service you are currently using.

If you are still unhappy, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
